In addition to the development of new ways in interaction, the VRlab takes care of the investigation and evaluation of new technologies from the entertainment industry for their applications in computer science environment. Currently, the Vrlab is working on an interface between the interactive, markerless motion capture tool Microsoft Kinect and a medical software with the aim, to get findings about new possible applications of gesture recognition in the medical environment.
The body movements of the user are recorded by an IR-depth sensor and a RGB- color camera and selected by known image processing techniques. By defined signs of the selected movements it is possible to make a distinction between different gestures. First, for the interaction with the medicine software only gestures are used for zoom and rotation.
